If you are running Windows Server 2008 without SP2, you should install KB958854 to resolve some issues with .NET 4.0. Windows Server 2008 SP2 and Windows Server 2008 R2 are unaffected by this issue.

*32-bit Solr technically can be used for a smaller-sized community, assuming the size of the search index is less than 2 GB. That being said, there are two reasons for the 64-bit recommendation: (1) When you start dealing with a medium to large community, the search index will grow. If the index gets too large, it will push the limits of the maximum memory size for an application on a 32-bit system. Windows 2008 R2 does not have a 32-bit version.
