In release 8.0, Email is a supported notification distribution type. Users can choose which type of notification they receive on the site or through email.
In Zimbra Community 8.0, application subscriptions are set at the application, but are globally configured here. For example, a user would subscribe to Support forum emails from the forum. When Zimbra Community sends the user email notifications, it will check to see where he/she globally prefers forum notifications to be sent.
Notifications are plugins, and are enabled or disabled in the Manage Plugins tab. They are extensible for third-party development as well, offering the ability to query and read notifications and query and update user notification preferences, define custom notification types, and define custom delivery methods for notifications.
Prior to release 8.0, some emails did not have a defined notification, for example abuse notification or blog moderation.
Users can now select the kinds of email notifications they want to receive on their Settings > Email tab (similar to Live Alerts). For example, if you subscribe to Support forum emails in the forum, the system checks to see where you globally want the forum notification emails to be sent.
