In the widget display, the Eye button lets an administrator choose who can see the widget. The question mark links to documentation.
You can scope the timeframe of the widget by clicking the calendar buttons.
If you mouse over each bar in the graph, you will see the number of unique users are included in each sector of users.
The Participation widget provides a quick look into the ways people are participating by viewing, engaging with, contributing to and originating content. This view of participation counts the total number of people who interacted with content in each way, so that if John viewed a blog post and then commented on it, he's included in the counts for both the Viewers and Contributors participation categories.
Community managers, group owners and application owners all need to understand how people are participating with the content within their specific context.
This widget can be placed at the community, group or application levels and will automatically show data only for the context in which it lives.

You have the option to select that date range to which you want to scope the report, which shows only data between and including the start and end dates that you select. By default, the report is scoped to the 30 days prior (yesterday minus 30 days up through yesterday).
